“Digital Image Processing” is now-a-days a demanding and interesting field. It is a core subject for Electronics and Communication and Computer Engineering. On the other hand it is the interdis- ciplinary subject that is a part of different branches of engineering. This shows the importance of the subject. But the deficiency of this area is that there are very few books available in the market for a general Indian student. I have tried here to represent all the fundamentals of Digital Image Processing in an easy way. Here we start the discussion with the chapter 1 that deals with Fundamentals of Image Processing. Here we will discuss some familiar examples of Image Processing, Components of Image Processing System and Generation of Digital Image. Chapters 2 and 3 deal with Image Enhancement Techniques in Spatial Domain and Frequency Domain respectively. Image Enhancement is the most demanding field and mostly applicable area of Image Processing. In the next chapter, we discuss Image Restoration . The image is degraded due to noise that is to be restored at the receiver side by using different filtering methods. Till this chapter, we have discussed the gray level image. In chapter 5, these concepts of Gray Images are explained for Color Image. Next chapter deals with Morphological Image Processing . From this chapter onwards, we consider the features and attributes of an Image. Chapter Registration deals with transformation of image at different planes for different purposes. In next chapter, we discuss the Image Segmentation that is very important and fundamental step of image processing. By the chapter Data Compression , we become familiar with the data compression techniques that will help us to save the bandwidth and space.

    INTRODUCTION & FUNDAMENTALS Price 2.99  |  2.99 Rewards Points

The basic aim of study of digital image processing is to process the image (in digital form) for— 1. improvement of image for human interpretation and 2. processing of image data for storage, presentation and transmission of image by machine.

IMAGE ENHANCEMENT IN SPATIAL DOMAIN Price 2.99  |  2.99 Rewards Points

“The objective of enhancement is to process an image so that the result is more suitable for human being in comparison to original image”. Image enhancement’s approaches falls two categories : (a)Spatial Domain : Spatial means the plane of image itself. So spatial domain is based on direct manipulation of pixels of an image. Term spatial domain refers to the aggregate of pixels composing an image. (b)Frequency Domain : Frequency domain processing techniques are based on manipulation in Fourier transform of image.

IMAGE ENHANCEMENT IN FREQUENCY DOMAIN Price 2.99  |  2.99 Rewards Points

One method of image enhancement has been discussed in previous chapter. Now we will discuss another method called frequency domain image enhancement. As discussed previously, “In this method, Enhancement is applied on the fourier transform of whole image”. So before going in detail for image enhancement using frequency domain, we just revise the fourier transform of a function because we will use fourier transform for converting an image from time domain to frequency domain.

IMAGE RESTORATION Price 2.99  |  2.99 Rewards Points

Image restoration by definition is also to process the image so that it looks better. But the basic difference between image restoration and image enhancement can be listed as given below : 1. Image enhancement is a subjective analysis on the other hand image restoration is an objective process. 2. Image restoration involves modelling of degradation in image and apply some mechanism to get image back. On the other hand, Image enhancement involves the process to manipulate the image in order to take the psychophysical advantage of human being.

COLOR IMAGE PROCESSING Price 2.99  |  2.99 Rewards Points

Till now we have discussed the gray level images where a pixel value at any image point can be represented by a single-valued function with a range of 0 to 255 in a 8-bit system. Image may be multivalued also by making more than measurement at a point.

IMAGE COMPRESSION Price 2.99  |  2.99 Rewards Points

The data transmission and storage is very expensive. Generally, as we know that for presentation of digital data, we use encoding. By the encoding process also, we have very large amount of data (in comparison to original data). Thus, the overall consideration is : 1. To save the transmission bandwidth for transmission of data (In our case image). 2. To save the space for storage of image/data.

MORPHOLOGICAL IMAGE PROCESSING Price 2.99  |  2.99 Rewards Points

Morphological basically is a biological word that stands for structure and forms of animals and plant that is always useful for representation and basic information about animals and plants. “In the field of image processing mathematical morphology is a tool that is useful for representation and description of region shapes such as boundary, skeletons and the convex hull”.

IMAGE REGISTRATION Price 2.99  |  2.99 Rewards Points

A problem of aligning two or more different images of the same scene, acquired from different view- points, at different times and/or with different kind of imaging sensors, arises frequently in many research areas dealing with image processing or analysis.

FEATURE EXTRACTION AND IMAGE SEGMENTATION Price 2.99  |  2.99 Rewards Points

The discussion till now was concern with the image processing where input was an image and output was also an image. Now on words, we will study different processes in which input signal is an image and output is the feature of images. The basic purpose of feature extraction from an image is to make easy the computer analysis and process of an image.

OBJECT REPRESENTATION AND DESCRIPTION Price 2.99  |  2.99 Rewards Points

Till now we have extracted the features ‘or’ attributes of an image by segmentation and other processes. Our basic purpose of feature extraction is to make useful image for different processes and purposes. But till now we have only raw data. These extracted feature and attributes are of no uses for computer and other machines. For that purpose we use descriptors which makes image ready for recognition.

    PATTERN /OBJECT RECOGNITION Price 2.99  |  2.99 Rewards Points

Automatic (machine) Pattern/object recognition, description, classification, and grouping of pattern/objects are important problems in a variety of engineering and scientific disciplines such as biology, psychology, medicine, marketing, computer vision, artificial intelligence, remote sensing and image processing.
