There have been several instances of human behavior at zoos, negatively affecting the animal inmates. Most recently it led to the killing of silver backed gorilla, Harambe at the Cincinnati zoo after an unsupervised little boy fell into his enclosure. We discuss the etiquette and behavior expected of visitors at zoos and other facilities where animals are exposed to inspection and interaction, often without a thought of their safety or distress. Here’s what you can do to be more sensitive to these poor, captive animals who will never know a life of freedom because of our fascination with wildlife and our insatiable need to be entertained.
